Hardware SettingsThese settings are located in the Microgate WAN Virtual Adapter properties of the Device Manager.
Port Selection
The WAN virtual adapter is software that uses a port on a hardware adapter. See the section below for details on adding and configuring hardware adapters and ports. Select the hardware port used for this virtual network adapter. Available ports are listed in the pull down port list.
Data Rate
The port data rate is the speed in bits per second (bps) in which data is transferred over the physical serial port that connects the hardware adapter to the communications device (CSU/DSU, Modem, etc.).
Examples:
V.34 Modem28800bps
Leased DDS I CSU/DSU56000bps
Bonded ISDN (2 B-Channels)128000bps
T-1 CSU/DSU1544000bps
Incorrectly setting this parameter could result in network timeouts.
Generate Clock
Data clocks are usually provided by the MODEM or CSU/DSU. In rare instances, it may be necessary for the adapter to generate these clocks. Enable this check box if the adapter needs to generate the data clocks. The clock signal is output on the AUXCLK serial signal. Depending on the application, external cabling may be necessary to route the AUXCLK signals to the correct RCLK and TCLK signals.
Encoding
This option selects the serial encoding (NRZ or NRZI). This setting must match that of the remote peer. PPP communications usually uses NRZ (default).
Connection Indicator
This option selects the input signal indicating the presence or absence of a connection. Possible selections include:
| None | Neither DCD nor DSR is monitored for connection indications | |
| DCD | Data Carrier Detect (DCD) is monitored to indicate connection state.(Default) | |
| DSR | Data Set Ready (DSR) is monitored to indicate connection state. |
This option should only be changed if absolutely necessary.
Switched RTS
This option selects the RTS mode of operation. If left unchecked, the connection will have a constant RTS (default). If checked, RTS will go active at the start of a transmit frame and then go inactive when the transmit is complete. In a switched RTS environment, the transmission of a frame is dependent on CTS.
This option should only be checked if absolutely necessary.
Adding and Configuring Hardware Adapters and Ports
Hardware adapters must be installed and configured before being used by the WAN software. Adapters may have one or more ports. Each WAN virtual adapter uses a single port. The installation and configuration procedures differ depending on the version of Windows.
